The events of September 11th are still fresh in our memories. Should that day be marked as a holiday?
September 11 should always be remembered and the lives that were lost that day should be honored, but by making it a holiday we will be doing just the opposite. Very few holidays retain the meaning they were intended to have. For example, when was the last time you remembered Presidents Day? What did you on Labor Day, other than watch TV and have a barbeque? How many even now what Memorial Day celebrates? Our holidays have been marred by 30% Off discounts, sales, and anxious children awaiting a day off from school. So I believe that the remembrance on 9-11 would be better of as a solemn memory of the tragic events without the accompanying hoop-la that our holidays have been marred with.
